A Part of Smartphone Living?
If your phone is sitting silently on the table next to you at the cafe, it’s likely you are paying less attention to the person you are with.
A new study suggests that even when our phones aren’t actively alerting us to something, we are less connected in our face-to-face interactions with them laying there.
Whether it’s the always-on pressure and expectations we tie ourselves to through our phones or the unlimited potential for distractions within them, the mere presence of a mobile device – not use – could be changing the way you interact.
Mindful Practice: Be Aware of the mental presence your devices bring with them. Turn them off and put them away when it’s time to focus on the person you are with.
